Fascinating isn't it? Self-absorption..... It's the mode that so many people seem to be absolved in these days. It's the reason the people are incessantly on the cell phone, why people are rude, and why manners are nonexistent.
My wonderful wife Amy has been sick. How many people have actually cared? Fewer than the appropriate number.
I hate to blast on people but this really bothers me.
Amy and I try so hard to be the friends that people need to have. Friends are people you can count on religiously. They are always there regardless.
However, our friends don't always return the favor. Our friends seem to be absolved of all external obligation that doesn't directly involve them.
Could it hurt to call and see how she's doing? Come by? Drop a card? Anything?
It's when times are rough that friends are really needed. It seems that's when they are the hard to find.

proof
Saturday I recieved further proof that society is in a horrible state of decline.
Scene: the mall.
One teeny bopper on her cell phone.
Age: undetermined but under 21.
Phrase to unknown person on other end.
"If she wants alcohol she needs to come the hell on".
WHAT?!?
It pains me to type these things. That's why I do well to come up with any proof of the decline. All I need to do is go to the mall and look around. Every teen with a mini-skirt and a halter top should be shot. The end.

6 weird things meme
Thanx Megs! Someone else tag her again! What does 'meme' really mean after all?
So here's six more weird things meme. (There's that word).
1. I love horror movies. The sicker the better. I need to see the Texas Chainsaw prequel, The Hitcher, and a few others... (I'm going to watch Final Destination 3 in a few minutes). Saw 2 is the best. Hostel is bloody disgusting. Saw III made me want to vomit. Enjoy.
2. I have small feet. I wear a size 7.5 to an 8 depending on what brand shoe it is. The rumor is not true.
3. I love it when it rains. When I was in college I used to either walk in the rain or at least sit outside under the balcony and watch it rain. There's something soothing about the rain. For those that have not tried it you should. There's a level of inner peace and harmony that can simply not be defined until you try it.
4. I play the saxophone. Did I list that one the last time? If so, that brings me to the next one...
5. My short term memory is shot... I can remember songs I have not heard in years however I can't recall where I sat my hat.
6. I'm extremely self conscious of my writing. I'm terrified for anyone to read it in my presence. I'm too bashful to discuss it. I also think that Hunter Thompson is/was a genius. If there is a level of writing that I could grant myself it would be to reach that level of gonzo genius. How better to live your life than traveling, staying up all nite in stranger hotels, and writing 0n anything that remotely crossed your mind?
7. I secretly believe I'm a soldier that is fighting a way through an unforgiving world. Word.
Whoop whoop! Guess that's fairly exciting for the evening.

train wreck in slow motion
Ever see something happening but you can't stop it? That's kind of how class went tonite. (I spell 'nite' that way on purpose).
There's this dude in there who is apparently the smartest guy in the world. He's so good the CIA tried to recruit him. Twice. TWO TIMES. He didn't take the job though. He'd rather do radio. Ok.
And he makes horrible jokes. God-awful jokes that make you want to cry.
But the worst part is he never realizes the kind of idiot he's making of himself.
Here's my final parting quote of the evening:
""You couldn't get a clue during the clue mating season in a field full of horny clues if you smeared your body with clue musk and did the clue mating dance."
--Edward Flaherty
That's him.

-random-
A few random thoughts before bedtime tonite.
I love old English words. Like "nite" and "thru" and "honour". Those words feel like they have meaning. I totally didn't mean to put that in there but it felt right.
Why can't I get comments on my blogs? I read other blogs (I'm pointing at you incredibleedible) and I'm extremely jealous that they get comments and I get doo doo.
Lastly for the evening, I am comforted by knowing that I may simply be struggling with artistic depression. The lessening in my genius is natural; I am simply impatient for the eruption that comes from it to happen.

-let it be-
I'm increasingly surprised at just how old I feel sometimes. I'll be 25 in March, not that old. However, I feel greatly removed from friends who are just a few years younger than me; friends that are still in school, or just work acquaintances. The world just seems different.
Shows on TV, songs on the radio, mass entertainment in general. Is it me... or has the world moved on? Did I get left behind? Am I just an old soul, a relic of a time that used to be?
With instant gratification, sensationalist societies, and total access and things outdated instantly is it possible to live a lifetime in an instant?
Are we dead the moment we are born? So often I feel like everything is foreign..as if I no longer connect.
At times I feel connected; I have a Rzr phone, I have a laptop and a PC; I know who the latest pop stars are yet... almost simultaneously I don't care.
I miss the old days. When the world wasn't so fast paced, days were longer, sunsets blazed brighter, and winds actually cooled the sweat on your skin.
Where are the lost summers, the forgotten vacations, the lackadaisic days of yore?
The more we move forward, it seems, the more we fall behind.
"Speaking words of wisdom...let it be".

memories
Finally realized just how much I miss the college scene. I'm a grad student now but the feeling just isn't the same.
I miss knowing I could count on people. People would answer when you called and would ride for you regardless of the reason.
Friends were anyone you knew by name. And for the most part they were honest people. There's always a shylock in the midst but most of the people were honest; a few jerks, but honest.
And the collegiate scene meant that even though you might be out partying at least you were partying with semi-intellects or scholars.
Honestly, as long as you can hold on to the fine balance between too much and a good education, more power to you.
I managed to make it through college in four years and looking back there's nothing I would do differently.

thursday
Supremely tired tonite...... nothing like a horrendously slow/busy day at work to take it out of you.
I have managed to get through a few books here lately.
1/ Fight Club-Chuck Palanuik. It's fantastic and much better than the movie.
2/ Wizard of Oz-Do your homework.
3/ Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas-Better than the movie and Hunter Thompson is a genius.
4/ Dracula-Bram Stoker...Again, do your homework.
Nothing too amazing going on here lately.....
Living, loving, making it through. Hope all is well out there in internet land.

SLAP 'EM!
I JUST WANT TO SLAP PEOPLE SOMETIMES!!!
Ever notice how rude people can be? Not just a little rude, like bumping into you at Wal-Mart and not saying 'excuse me' but the type of rudeness that comes with a lifelong mentality of "Today I'm gonna be rude as snot and people have to deal with it". That kind of rude.
So I'm at Target earlier. (I like Target, sue me) and these kids are looking at the movies/DVDs. Fine and dandy, I like movies also. But one of the teeny-boppers is on the phone, another is yelling at her while she's yelling at her friend on the phone, they keep walking in front of me AND STOPPING as if I'm not standing there... I just wanna SLAP 'EM!
WHERE IS YOUR MOTHER?
Oh, on top of that. I hate it when my friends call adults by their first names. Like spouses calling the in-laws by the first name. That's not polite AT ALL. You are not on their level. You married their son/daughter. SHOW SOME RESPECT.
How did end up so normal? Am I special? Is this weird?
.......I'ma write a book. Guess what I'm gonna call it?
"........I'd beat 'em"

ER reflections
Amy went to the ER. Friday nite at 2:00 we went and the morons who claim to hold the medical knowledge to heal did a poor job of it. They didn't really figure anything out so they discharged Amy.
Saturday afternoon about 1:00 we went back.
This time they had their act together and finally got around to making hert pain and discomfort go away.
Still haven't figured out exactly what's wrong...however things are getting better.
So it's Sunday afternoon and it's been a long weekend.
Can't wait to see what this week holds.

a moment
At random.... without warning... not a sound, nor an alarm...
sudddenly you are at peace with the world and your surroundings.
You can be anywhere. You can exit a store, leave a restaurant, or walk to the mail box and find yourself instantly at peace with everything.
And the moment you recognize it it is gone.
It's almost as if you are living a memory of a memory....
It's 'once upon a time' telling the story of 'once upon a time'....
It's more than long ago and far away.... it's a moment that no one will capture or understand but you. It's yours.
It's an old song played over a memory of you and a best friend wrapped in emotions and inhaled like so much cocaine that the rush will overtake you like an acidic deja vu journey...

worms and coffee
Kind of catchy isn't it? As I was driving around Brunswick county earlier today I passed a small country store. It was your ever-typical mom-and-pops kind of store.
The sign in the window said......... (You guessed it).
"Worms and Coffee"
Guess you can get your morning coffee to wake up and your worms to take on the same early morning fishing trip.
And in happier news...I've been asked to do some writing for money!
Yes, little old me.
I will be blogging for hotelsbycity.com and keeping anyone who wants to be in the know updated on all the cool groovy places in Dubtown.
So next time I'll have "Turds and Tangerine".

resolutions
Resolutions.....we all make them at this time of the year. I'm not sure why people do it; they inevitable break the resolution or forget about them come December 31 again. Yet, we are still pressed by those around us to attempt to better ourselves in a vain hope that this year will be different, this year we'll do it, this year will be the best year ever.
1/ I want to be a little more health conscious... more exercise, more water, less soda and junk.
2/ Read more. I'm already trying to do that... I love to read and sometimes I feel like I neglect it.
3/ A poem a week. Get ready to be enchanted.
And there's plenty of other things but there's not need to list something so phenomenal that it will be daunting.
Good luck to all who have made resolutions...
